Soup’s On

Here in NYC it seems that Fall has definitely arrived.  Fall always makes me think of heartier eating; soups, beef bourguignon, etc…. so today I thought we’d talk about Soup Etiquette.

To eat soup: dip the spoon in sideways at the near edge of the bowl, then skim from the front of the bowl to the back. Sip from the SIDE of spoon. No slurping, (unless you’re eating soup dumplings then it’s absolute acceptable and expected).

To retrieve the last spoonful, tip the bowl AWAY from you to spoon up that last delicious bit.

When you’re finished your soup, if you’re eating out of a bowl: place the spoon INSIDE the bowl with the handle facing the right side.  If you’re eating out of a cup, place the spoon on the underplate, never in the cup.

Happy Fall!
