Since I am trapped in my apartment awaiting the arrival of SANDY, I did what any good New Yorker would do: I ordered Chinese. ( I know, it’s 10am, don’t judge me).
This inspired me to talk about one of my favorites: SHANGHAI SOUP DUMPLINGS.
For those of you who are new to these, they look exactly like the steamed dumplings you get from your local Chinese restaurant, however, instead of being filled with pork or veggies, they are filled with soup.
Now there is a very specific way of eating these so you don’t lose the contents and/or splatter the people you’re eating with:
*After ordering Shanghai soup dumplings you will, (should), be given a set of chopsticks and a ceramic Chinese soup spoon.
*Use the chopsticks to move the dumpling onto the ceramic spoon
*While holding the dumpling, with the chopsticks, take a little nibble out of the corner and slurp the soup
*Any soup that spilled out will have been caught by the spoon…so you never lose a drop
*After slurping all the soup you can pop the whole dumpling in your mouth
YES: slurping is totally acceptable!
Thanks for reading; and if you are in the path of SANDY, be safe.
