Lots of times, after eating shelled seafood, (especially lobster), in fine dining establishments you will be presented with a finger bowl. Usually it’s a small bowl of water, a lemon and a fresh napkin. Here’s how you do it:
Gently squeeze the lemon or rub the lemon along your fingertips, dip you finger tips in the bowl and then blot on the napkin. Do NOT bathe your entire hand in said bowl, it’s considered bad form.
If the finger bowl is presented on top of a plate: after cleaning your fingers, remove the finger bowl and put it to the left, (so it may be cleared by the server); the plate underneath is now your new charger for the next course.
