Here are some quickie etiquette tips….I was inspired to write about these because I’m seeing these take place E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E…..
*Toothpicks: do NOT use a toothpick, (or anything else), to pick your teeth at the table. Excuse yourself and go to the bathroom. Now, that is the classic etiquette rule, but I feel a little differently about this. Is it gross: YES. Do I want to see you pick your teeth: NO; however, I also think it’s ok to adapt to your surroundings….ya know: when in Rome! If I’m in a bbq joint in Memphis that’s totally down and dirty, (my favorite by the way), clearly it’s more acceptable than if I were eating at Blue Smoke in NYC. I don’t like it, but I tend to give a pass to the “environmental” factor.
*Blowing your nose at the table: I give NO pass on this! Get up and go to the restroom, do your business, WASH YOUR HANDS, then go back to the table. Blowing your nose at the table is beyond bad etiquette; plus the amount of germs you’ve just spread makes me want to take a SILKWOOD shower.
