When a new restaurant is about to open they have what is called a “soft open”. Basically, it’s a dress rehearsal for the real thing. In the industry we call it:”friends and family”, because it’s usually industry friends and family that are invited.
If you are invited to a soft open this is what you need to know:
*You will not be paying for any food. ANY. It’s truly a rehearsal for the kitchen and service staff to see if they can get it out on time and properly.
*The only thing you WILL be paying for is liquor.(not always, but usually).
*Bring CASH, because even though the meal is MOSTLY free, you MUST tip like a Rockefeller. It is expected and it is proper etiquette in this situation. If you don’t, it will be documented and the next time invitations go out, don’t be surprised if your name is not on the list.
