Derby Day

I am OBSESSED with the Kentucky Derby. O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D! It’s totally on my bucket list. When I think of the Derby I think of big fancy hats. Here is a story about proper Hat etiquette………….
My friend Tim, who works for Lidia Bastianich at one of her restaurants, had an interesting interaction with a guest the other night. Tim said that he had a female guest, who arrived for her reservation, wearing quite the Easter Bonnet; (apparently it was its own 3 act play). After she was seated she asked her server if she was permitted to keep her hat on: (que Joe Cocker)……so the classic etiquette rules apply:
*Women are permitted to keep their hats on while indoors.
*Men must remove their hats while they are indoors.
*Men should also remove their hats, while in an elevator, if a woman enters.
*While at theatre or concerts; all hats should be removed if they are blocking anyone’s view; (after all, they paid for those tickets just like you and deserve an unobstructed view, just like you).
*Women should never wear a hat with an evening dress; (which is why you never see them on the Red Carpet at The Oscars but you do see them at The Oscar Luncheon).
*(As a personal like): I like when a man tips his hat at a lady…very old school, but I love it.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for reading.
