Yesterday, I was having a lovely Easter brunch with friends, when a huge service faux pas happened……
One of our friends was still chewing her food and yet the busser swept in and took away her plate; (it was difficult for her to communicate otherwise because, after all, her mouth was full of food).
OK: as a service professional, (especially during Sunday brunch), I appreciate the need to turn tables; however, there is NO excuse for that type of service. DO NOT APPROACH THE TABLE TO CLEAR PLATES IF SOMEONE IS STILL CHEWING…..this is bad etiquette/service all around. It pissed her off; which it should have. I have no idea if that was reflected in the tip, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
Restaurant managers: PLEASE train your support staff when it’s appropriate to clear tables. This happened towards the end of the meal and left a bad taste in her mouth….not how you want your restaurant remembered.
Thanks for reading.
