Verbal Gratuity

May 29, 2013 by Diniquette

I love, LOVE, when guests tell me that they think I’m the best server that they’ve ever had; it’s a lovely compliment and it’s always nice to receive confirmation that you’re doing your job well………HOWEVER: just because you gush and throw lollipops and rainbows at me because I’m allegedly so fabulous that does NOT mean that you don’t have to tip properly! In the biz we call this the “verbal gratuity”.

If you thought you had fantastic service; by all means communicate that to the server, the managers, whomever; but make sure you remember to tip properly…and since you gushed that tells me that you should have tipped a minimum of 20%.

Compliments are great but they don’t pay the mortgage; I’m just sayin!

Tip properly!

Thanks for reading.
