Last night I watched WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY for the first time in years……he is the inspiration for today’s Fun Facts. Enjoy!
*If you watch the opening credits, you’ll see that the film’s copyright was held by QUAKER OATS. The cereal maker was launching a line of candy bars and had been talking to movie producers about vehicles to promote it.
*QUAKER OATS sold Wonka Candy to NESTLE`in the 1980’s.
*The chocolate river was created on a soundstage and was 2 feet deep. It consisted of 150,000 gallons of water mixed with chocolate and cream. The mixture spoiled quickly and thus filled the sound stage with a foul odor…..poor Augustus.
*When Gene Wilder got the part, he accepted it on 1 condition: he wanted to make his entrance with the fake old man limping bit that turns into a sumersault. He said: “I knew from then on the audience wouldn’t know if I was lying or telling the truth”.
To quote Mr. Wonka:
“A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men”.
