Last night, a server I know, had the following situation:
*The guest check was $200. They paid with 2 forms of payment:
*a $50 OpenTable check and a credit card for the balance.
*The guest only tipped on $150.
THIS IS 100% WRONG!
You are to tip on the entire amount of the check!
I think it’s wonderful that you dine out so often that you earn OpenTable checks, but that doesn’t give you an excuse to shortchange your server. Regardless of how you pay for your check, you are to tip on EVERYTHING on that check; end of story!
If you ordered it and consumed it: you tip on it!
