Ordering a Drink

Hi.

Yesterday, I found myself in need of a libation; so I saddled up at my favorite bar and observed the insanity going on around me. This is how the gentleman on my right ordered his drink:

“I’ll have a bourbon old fashion; less of everything except the bourbon”.

Really? If you want a DOUBLE old fashion, then order a double; but don’t ask, joke or charm the bartender into giving you extra alcohol for free…..that is considered stealing in the Bar/Restaurant world, and as with any job, theft is grounds for immediate termination. Would you walk into Tiffany’s and ask for a them to give you a 4 carat diamond when you’re paying for a 2 carat? No! Same thing.

Now, let’s talk about the gentleman on my left:

He decided that the bar garnishes, that were beautifully displayed in front of him, were a free bar snack. Does everyone really NOT know that those are for drinks and not a free buffet?

First of all, are your hands clean? How many germs did you just deposit. Second, that is part of the bartenders sidework. The bartenders spend TONS of time cutting, slices, peeling and preparing those garnishes for cocktails; and they know exactly how many to prep for each nights service. If you decide that the garnishes are your appetizer, you are risking the bar being at a deficit….and that always seems to happen when everyone is in the weeds; which means you just made extra work for the bartender and at the worst time possible. Don’t you LOVE when people do that to you at your job?

So, order according to what you’re willing to pay for and keep your dirty, germy hands off of the garnishes!

Thanks for reading.
